Day 16 Melbourne

Today we arrived in Melbourne after spending a week in Brisbane.  Melbourne is the second largest city in Australia and is located in the state of Victoria.  We spent the day walking about the city and seeing as much of the city as we could see in a full day of walking around.

Our first stop was to to get something to eat.  We ended up at an open air market called Queen Victoria Market.  After eating a sub par roasted pork wrap I ventured into the market itself.  It reminded me of Pike Street market in Seattle.  There were meat counters, fish counters, cured meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, and then there were nick knack and clothing stands.  These were not quite as nice the rest of the market but they were entertaining nonetheless.  It was rows and rows of people selling shirts, shoes, cheap watches, souvenirs, and pretty much anything you could think of.  There was even a guy selling live chickens, roosters, and ducks.

From here we ventured down to Federation Square and then the botanical gardens.  Federation Square was a great place to people watch and it was here that Anoop, our fearless leader, purchased our tickets for the Australian Open.  I am beyond excited about going to the tournament.  I'll fill everyone in on the details of what match we are going to as soon as I find out.  The botanical gardens were huge and had a lot of indigenous and non-native plants from all over the world.  I was particularly mesmerized by these awesome hydrangeas.

Don't know what these are, but I thought they were cool

These were weird, but cool
