Day 26 Maori Cultural Experience

Today we visited the Auckland museum, which is located in the park that we visited yesterday.  It was a rainy morning and for some reason our group decided to walk.  After barely making it downstairs in time to meet the group due to an alarm clock malfunction I was slightly confused that we had chosen to walk in the rain.  We all made it to the museum relatively dry and in time to go the Maori cultural exhibit.  The Maori are the indigenous people to New Zealand.  They have a very rich culture that has seemed to have been well preserved over the years.  Many of the people that live in New Zealand today are of Maori decent and appear to all be very proud of their heritage.  Check out this video of the Maori Haka.  This was a dance that was used by the warriors to intimidate their opponents.  You will notice them slapping their thighs, arms, and chests, as this was a means of conditioning their skin for battle.  Today the New Zealand rugby team, The All Blacks, preform the Haka before every match.  Check out the All Blacks here.

We were all starving after the museum so we started walking towards downtown with the hopes that we would find somewhere good to eat.  Somehow, we stumbled upon a little Irish restaurant and I had the best rueben sandwich I have ever had.  This had the perfect amounts of freshly cooked corned beef, sour kraut, swiss cheese, and a spicy mustard on warm sourdough bread.  It was paired nicely with some homemade dill pickles and more spicy mustard that really brought the whole meal together.
Phenomenal
